Adam van Vleet
Adam received his Bachelor of Music degree in Trumpet Performance at The Bob Cole Conservatory of Music at California State University, Long Beach. On trumpet, Adam has taught privately at his home and students' homes throughout the Greater Los Angeles Area, and has also been hired as a substitute teacher at Opus Music of the South Bay, in Torrance, CA, where he taught trumpet, French horn, and trombone to students from ages nine to fifteen. In addition to teaching privately, Adam has coached at North Torrance High School, Loara High School, East Whittier Middle School, La Mirada High School, and Anaheim High School.
At The Bob Cole Conservatory of Music he has been a member of the critically acclaimed Wind Symphony, and has also held the principal trumpet chair in the Symphonic Band, and the lead chair in the Studio Jazz Band. In addition to these groups, he has also held a position in the school's Symphony Orchestra, where he was assistant principal trumpet on Symphonic Dances from West Side Story.
During the beginning of his senior year at North High School in Torrance, CA, Adam was one of the nine Pasadena City College Herald Trumpets hand-picked out of a group of approximately seventy other trumpet players who auditioned for the 2008 Pasadena City College Tournament of Roses Parade Honor Band.
From 2009-2012, Adam played coach horn at The Renaissance Pleasure Faire of Los Angeles, located at the Santa Fe Damn Recreational Area.
Over the years, Adam has been involved in musical theater throughout the South Bay, having played trumpet in the pit orchestra for productions such as The Wiz; The Boyfriend; Promises, Promises; All Shook Up; Hello, Dolly!; Mame; Les Miserables; and How To Succeed In Business Without Really Trying.
Adam is well-versed in different musical styles, from orchestral to big band jazz to mariachi. Some Los Angeles area-based groups Adam has played with include rock/reggae band 80 Proof, The Wiseguys Big Band Machine, The Geo Valle Swing City Big Band, The Jim Scott Big Band, The Fabulous Esquires Big Band, The Palos Verdes Regional Symphony Orchestra, The Los Angeles Doctors Symphony Orchestra, The Vineyard Touring Opera Company, and Mariachi Tradicion de Los Angeles.
Adam has studied trumpet with David Washburn (LA Studios, LA Opera, LA Chamber Orchestra), Dan Fornero (LA Studios, Gordon Goodwin's Big Phat Band, Bob Mintzer Big Band), and Rob Frear (LA Studios, Hollywood Bowl Orchestra), as well as jazz arranging with Jeff Jarvis.
